NEWS EDITOR GREG MIGLIORE: The Hyundai Equus Ultimate offers a lot of amenities and power for the price. I like the large.

Fact about hyundai! The Hyundai logo is not just the letter "H" in the aval. It would be too easy. This emblem symbolizes the handshake of two people - a representative of the concern and a satisfied customer. In addition, in Korean, the word "hyundai" is translated as "modern".

Find out why the Hyundai Equus is rated by The Car Connection or as a pair of buckets on the luxury-overload Ultimate edition.

Whether you think it's a great stay-awake feature or a gimmick is between you and your backside. Yet quality and overall feel set it a step below its better-established competitors. The seats weren't as comfy as I remember them, but I did use the massaging function for most of my drives and that, and the heating and cooling settings worked very well. The Mercedes GL-class had too little, this has too much. Have you ever seen a really good cover band?

The Hyundai Equus Ultimate offers a lot of amenities and power for the price. I like the large, rear-wheel dynamics of the sedan, and it truly has presence inside and out. There is plenty of brawn and confidence in the Equus, something that is reinforced with the styling.

I like the big, bold grille, blinged-out wheels and headlights and curvy, lengthy silhouette. My use of the electronics was limited but fruitful; the navigation map was clear, the backup camera sharp and the sound system pleasant. The chassis is comfortable, almost a bit floaty, but it feels like an executive-class sedan.

The steering has a nice weight and feel to it, and most maneuvers are accomplished with ease despite the size of the car. I'd argue this looks vaguely like a Lexus or Mercedes-Benz , which is fine, though hardly original. Despite the value offered in the Equus, I'd say other brands have more cachet, which is worth laying out more cash to get. This was my first extended period of time in a Hyundai Equus.

While I get that Hyundai wants to play in the luxury car field, I'm not sure who is turning to Hyundai to satisfy their luxury car needs. At least Toyota and Nissan rebranded their luxury cars. But there you go. Can Hyundai make U. For all I know Hyundai's less-than-German sticker and its legendary monster warranty might be enough to sway some folks. The car does tick a fair number of luxury car boxes: It looks the part, the interior has what appears to be nice materials well assembled, and Hyundai's version of iDrive works well and is fairly intuitive.

The powertrain is nice and smooth and there's enough oomph while the ride is too soft, even in sport mode, and that's especially noticeable on the freeway. The steering is weird, too, fine at low speeds but too light and unconnected at speed. The seats feel a bit flat and there doesn't seem to be a lot of bottom support. Overall, the car feels a lot more like a Lexus LS than a German entry.

But seriously this is an executive-class sedan. It has all the technological wizardry one could ask at half the price of a BMW 7-series. I wonder how much that sentiment will proliferate during this car's run. Yes, it is definitely not a Mercedes, but the question is, what is it about the Merc that you like? If it's the space, power or tech, Hyundai's got it. Jeez they even played down the badge so you can't tell on first glance what the marque is.

But there was something about this one that felt a little chintzy. And I'm pretty sure I liked the last big Hyundai we had, but it might have been a Genesis.

This Equus seemed a little beat up, the armrest rattled a bit and it just didn't have that brick-on-wheels feel that I expected. The seats weren't as comfy as I remember them, but I did use the massaging function for most of my drives and that, and the heating and cooling settings worked very well. The seats allow for a lot of adjustment, but don't offer too much support, especially laterally, like Wes said.

Quick note about the analog clock: I thought I liked it, I thought it looked luxurious in this and Infiniti vehicles, but now I realize it's just dumb. It's hard to quickly read when you're driving down the road and with no numbers, it makes it even harder. Just give me a digital readout on the gauge cluster, please. One thing I can't complain about is the power. Sport mode turns up the wick a bit. But I would like a separate sport mode for the power and the suspension.
