    As previously posted, the straight axle set-up is great if you're restoring the truck back to stock, but if you're going to make it a good driver, it's not your best option.

    The suspension travel is limited, and if you're going to lower it with a dropped axle, you can't go too far because you run into problems with bump steer. Plus, the stock steering boxes are sloppy, and the even though the brakes can be upgraded, there are still much better options. First, you can clip the truck. Early Camaro suspensions are the right width, but they have a steering box that's behind the crossmember and that makes the exhaust more of a challenge to route.

    The Camaro subframes tend to be a bit too wide. Another option is the Malibu, Regal, Cutlass subframe. You have to really trim these subframes behind the crossmember because in stock form, the frame downlegs make a serious turn to the inside inboard and they don't line up at all with the truck's original framerails. The easiest, most compact alternative is the Mustang II. There are scores of manufacturers who make kits specifically for the AD trucks.
