So, guy that listens to music that loud in his car: turn it down. . If the sunroof or windows are open, I'll play it only slightly over normal volume, .. apparent loudness, that is, a low 80dB tone will sound quieter than a high one.

Those peple that play loud music in their cars - Ars Technica OpenForum

I was sitting here, inside, reading Ars with two televisions on AND listening to music, and I hear bass outside. There's some idiot driving around, blasting music at an insta-deaf volume coming down my street. But something's not right. The sound isn't coming from that direction. Sheer horror and awe hit me as I realize that the driver isn't driving on my road. He's on the highway that's maybe meters from my home.

I can't hear 18 wheelers as they pass my house, but I can hear this guy's bassline better than I can hear the one coming from the speakers six feet away. So, guy that listens to music that loud in his car: Well here's the thing: I listen to my music loud, but loud for myself so I can enjoy the entirety of the song. There are those shmucks out there who feel that they need to blast their stereo so everyone can hear it, which annoys me.

I try to keep my stereo at a respectable level. These guys have an uncanny knack for passing my house right when I'm putting my son to bed.

While blasting their stereos. And screeching their tires around the corner. My personal favorite is when you have the guy in his Taurus with a trunk full of subwoofers and no sound deadening material. He just has no idea that his license plate is rattling so badly! It really is a never ending circle. Bass frequencies cause hearing loss quicker than treble, so those guys are probably already losing their hearing.

So, they turn it up more. And the cycle continues. Soon several car alarms are going off. I have friends that like to compete in decibel contests - they regularly get over dB. However, they are the nice ones. Going down the street, in a parking lot, they have it so you can barely hear the bass standing outside. You simply need to "convince" these people that driving through a public area while not in some competition with a loud stereo is very, very bad. Wait, I forgot one.

It's not for the benefit of anyone else. I also make a point not to open windows or the sunroof when it's playing loud. I'll turn it down to a normal level when I'm going through a residental area after 10PM or so, and around hospitals and such. When it's at a normal level db , it's virtually inaudible outside.

If the sunroof or windows are open, I'll play it only slightly over normal volume, and of course the other rules still apply. I rarely have the windows open unless I am going under 30MPH, like through a town on a nice day. I hate these tards in their Honda Civics with their 12" exhaust pipes, fake HID headlights, 20" wheels, and 20HP engine cruising down the street with their cheap-ass stereo gear playing at such a loud volume, like you mentioned.

It gives people who listen to music at a loud level and also respect others a bad name. Sweaty Testicles Has Spoken. Originally posted by Fixxer: Your just a buncha OLD schmucks. An old schmuck with intact hearing. Originally posted by gumbo: It just makes you not normal. Originally posted by swsteckly: This drives me nuts. Invest in a good bb gun practice your aim time your shot so it lands on a good bass note.
